VALTHON'S MEMORY SHARD
This is a series of six (6) tasks in the Hills of Shade, for a pretty nice charm only Augmentation.
One of the six tasks is really a "master" task so to speak, where the other tasks are merely steps within the master task.
..
VALTHON'S MEMORY SHARD: Magic, Lore, No Trade; Augmentation Type 7 or 8, Charm Only; All/All; Weight 0.0; 15 AC, 90 HP, 90 Mana, 90 End; 15 Fire, 15 DIS, 15 Cold, 15 Magic, 15 Poison; Required Level 75.
.
STATUS: Completed and Confirmed!

THE QUEST(S)
1) HILLS OF SHADE: You are first looking for A Mysterious Stranger (Level 80).
He is located south of Camp Valor along the wall there (area of p453, p938).
You need to buy from him Eyes of Kirathas (Lore, No Trade, Weight 0.5).
You need to wear it (and every time hereafter, that you venture into the Kirathas camp).
This mask is a faction modifier and allows you to venture safely within the Kirathas camp.
NOTE: You may want to skip down and peek at Step 14, so you can start acquiring needed items, as you go along.
.
2) After putting on the mask, invis up (to avoid non-Kirathas MOB's) and head to the south west where the Kirathas camp is.
NOTE: Make sure you have room for two (2) tasks.
In on of the building there you will find Valthun Woodswatcher (Level 80) (yes, the NPC and the Aug are spelled different).
Hail him and get the task called "Invasion of the Defilers." This is the "master" task.
At the same time, you all also get the task called "Seeking Amber" (aka Valthun #1).
.
3) Next up find and speak (hail) to Amber (Level 80) (keep your mask on).
You will find her a bit east and north of the Kirathas village by a large "Neglum" tree.
.
4) Now head back to Valthun and talk (hail) to him (make sure you are wearing your mask).
.
5) The next step is to hail the various named NPC's within the Kirathas camp (make sure you are wearing your mask).
You have to say to them "What has Amber been up to?"
Keep speaking to all the named NPC's until you get a task update.
Some say certain NPC's give the update, but it actually is random.
.
6) Now head back to Valthun, again (make sure you are wearing your mask).
Hail him to finish this first task and you will automatically be assigned the second task, "Testing the Defilers" (aka Valthun #2).
TOP.
7) You will need a capable group for this next step.
You need to get a eleven (11) location updates in the Blackwater village (5), by the docks (3) and by the sunken boats (3) out on the water.
The tricky thing here is that while this task is active, A Blackwater Lookout (Level 79 to 81) seems to be able to see through IVU as well as the faction mask.
The reason this is a problem is because if they see you and attack, you will loose all the steps you have accomplished to that point... and have to do them again!
However, if you and pull and kill A Blackwater Lookout, this will not happen for some reason.
It appears if you are in the village or dock area, you loose the steps with aggro. If you pull them out of the village/docks and kill them, you are okay.
There are about eleven (11) to thirteen (13) in the village and by the docks. One tricky one (he seems to be hiding) is by the docks.
Anyway, the best tactic is to pull an kill MOB's from different sides of the camp until you have killed any A Blackwater Lookout on that side of the camp and then IVU in to the task update and then retrace your steps right back out.
Same for the dock area.
As for the boats, all you need for them is levitate and invis (there are live MOB's on the boats). You don't have to up on the ships, just run up beside them until you get the updates.
Once you have accomplished the eleven (11) location updates, they will "lock" in (you will not loose them with aggro, anymore).
You may want to cut and paste the below map locations to your map file, to mark the locations on you in-game map.

.
8) Now go find Scout Leader Aldin (Level 82) (make sure you are wearing your mask).
He is hiding invis by a tree near the Blackwater camp, along the trail.
Hail him and follow along, and he will give you a Firebrand (No Trade, Magic, Weight 3.0, 10 charges of Fire Starter).
.
9) Now you have to "burn a boat"
You will need a capable group, as this step can be difficult.
Crowd control and DPS will be key here.
Set-up on the island out in the bay. The boat you are going to is the one to the east from that island (the upright boat).
First off pull and clear all the A Spirit of Flame (Level 79 to 81), until you clear the upper deck.
Once done, run up on the boat (there is a ladder on the side).
Have the group go to the front (low end) of the boat. Get as far as you can on that end without falling off.
Tanks can position on the far end of the main deck (just before the front/low end).
Have a person go up right against the center mast and click the Firebrand from inventory, to set a fire.
The fire may damage the player, so move back as soon as the cast is done.
The fire will invisible, but you will see the name of the fire (A Mystical Fire).
This fire, as the event progresses, will spawn more fires called A Blazing Fire.
.
10) About two (2) minutes or less after the fire is set, three (3) to four (4) A Sailor (Level 77 to 80) will spawn.
They will aggro and go after the person who set the fire.
However, they will tether (and heal to 100% when they do) if they run too far past the main deck.
Thus, the reason the casters are on the far end, so that they do not get killed easily and the reason the tanks are at the end of the main level, near the casters, so they can aggro the spawns and kill them, without tethering them. Make sense?
Anyway, AoE root and/or AoE mezz will be very, very handy here.
You may notice some A Sailor are carrying buckets and head directly to one of the fires.
It is essential that they be killed first, because they are trying to put out the fire you set. They have lower HP than the others and are not too hard to kill. A pet class can send in their pet and kill them pretty easily.
I done this event several times and it is not very clear and what it takes to win. It appears however, that it is normally after the third wave of Sailors and when there are about six (6) A Blazing Fire up, along with the A Mystical Fire.
.
11) Now head back to Scout Leader Aldin and give him back the Firebrand (make sure you are wearing your mask).
.
12) Then head back to Valthun (make sure you are wearing your mask).
Hail him to finish this task and automatically get the next task called, "Defile the Defilers" (aka Valthun #3).
TOP.
13) This task is easy enough.
Take a decent group and then pull and kill fifteen (15) MOB's with the name "Blackwater" (Level 76 to 82) in their title, from the Blackwater village.
TOP.
14) Now head back to Valthun (make sure you are wearing your mask).
Hail him to finish this task and automatically get the next task called, "The Invasion of the Defilers" (aka Valthun #4).
TOP.
15) If you haven't all ready, you will now need to acquire a number of items, for turn ins.
These items can be acquired in advance (acquiring them is not a step).
You will need the following items:
Some location markers to cut and paste to your in-game map:

.
16) Once you have all the items you need, put on your mask and head to the Kirathas village.
Look for Aramus the Elder (Level 82).
Hail him for a task update.
.
17) Along the northern edge of the village, are a number of A Kirathas Hunter (Level 79 to 81) lined up along a ridge.
Give one (1) set of parts for any of the three (3) trap types, to each Hunter.
WARNING: If you give more than one (1) set of parts to any Hunter, you will loose the items and will not get credit!
The trap part sets are as follows:
A Pit Trap (Level 1) requires three (3) Sharp Stick and a Thin Stone Slab;
A Snare Trap (Level 1) requires two (2) Springy Young Branch, a Fishing Net and a Bag of Large Hooks;
A Bear Trap (Level 1) requires a Serrated Long Blade, a Strong Tree Limb, a Dried Tree Limb and a Heavy Rope Vine.
.
18) Once the trap parts are turned in, you need to find Elder Scout Tuluria (Level 84), towards the back of the camp.
Hail to activate the next sequence.
.
19) Waves of An Invader (Level 78 to 82) will now run up and attack the Hunters.
The Hunters, meanwhile, have set the traps (using the parts you gave them), directly in front of them (there will be A Bear Trap, A Snare Trap or A Pit Trap in front of each Hunter).
When any Hunter is engaged with An Invader, run up, target whichever Trap is there, and say "Now" (/say Now).
This will set off the trap and kill An Invader.
Using Invis to Undead, and wearing your Eyes of Kirathas , you should be safe... so long as you avoid the A Viridian Ghost (Level 78 to 80) that roam in the area.
You will get credit for two different steps of the task (one for setting off the Traps, one for killing Invaders).
If the Hunters all die, all the Traps are gone or the Invaders are defeated and you did not complete this step, simply go back and hail Tuluria (it make take two or three hails) to activate the sequence again.
.
20) Now go back and hail Tuluria for another update.
.
21) Next up, there are five (5) elves in the caves (center-south of zone) that you now need to hail.
They are undead, so you can hail them while invis, but not with IVU.
However, there are both live and undead in the caves.
Thus, it is necessary to clear the way or area, to allow hailing each NPC.
You must hail all five (5) to complete this step. If you die or zone in the process, this step will reset!
You need to find and hail A Weeping Elf (Level 75), A Doloros Elf Maiden (Level 75), An Elderly Elf (Level 75), An Elven Child (Level 75) and A Sorrowful Elf (Level 75).
.
22) Now head back to Valthun (make sure you are wearing your mask).
Hail him to finish this task and automatically get the next task called, "Last Stand Into Eternity" (aka Valthun #5).
.
23) Now go back and hail Tuluria for another update.
This will activate the next stage.
If more than one person in your group is doing this task, there is a way to do this for everyone at once.
One person can hail Tuluria and then zone, allowing the next person to hail Tuluria. Repeat this process until everyone has hailed Tuluria, with the last person staying in the zone, so as not to deactivate the event.
This is necessary for two reasons, it resets the event and because Tuluria will ignore everyone else until the event is reset.
.
24) A Human Raider (Level 78 to 82) will begin attacking the village.
You need to kill twenty-five (25) of them.
The best way to do this is to pull them into the pathway to the far south of the village.
.
25) Once done, head back to Valthun.
As you enter the building he is in, a short drama will play out.
Amber will reveal to Fendel that they have a daughter (a Half Elf!). Valthun will kill Amber, Fendel will grieve and Erollisi Marr will express frustration at the whole thing.
Also, Valthun will change into Amber's Father (Level ??).
I am not sure why this happens, as it is not required that you kill him or anything... so kill him or try to flee.
In any case, this will finish the task "Last Stand Into Eternity" as well as the over all task, "The Invasion of the Defilers."
You will get nearly three (3) AA of experience and Valthon's Memory Shard!
Gratz!
